Our Story

Ten years ago, a small and diverse group of mothers, each with different immigration statuses, education levels, incomes, races, and cultural backgrounds, found themselves united by a shared struggle: they were all navigating a school system not built with them in mind.

They gathered around coffee tables and community rooms in Boston, exhausted from watching their children fall through cracks that hurt their social-emotional wellbeing and educational experience. They were frustrated by decisions made about their children without their voices, and they were determined to change the conditions that kept so many families silent, isolated, and unheard.

From that determination, the Collaborative Parent Leadership Action Network (CPLAN) was born.
