Brockton Chapter
CPLAN was initially founded in Boston and quickly expanded to a statewide initiative. In 2018, one of our dedicated parent leaders, displaced from Boston due to rising housing costs, relocated to Brockton. With the support of Brockton’s welcoming community and its dedicated school staff, she launched the Brockton Chapter, which has since grown steadily, building strong connections and empowering families within the district. This chapter continues to foster meaningful family engagement and advocate for equitable education across the city.
DPAC
(District wide Parent Advisory Council)
The purpose of the DPAC is for parents and community members to work in solidarity with the Brockton Public School administration to reach the common goal of improving student’s educational experience that supports academic success, while meeting their social and emotional needs.
This includes parents working together with the superintendent and other district level leaders in decision making to develop equitable policies & practices.

Brockton Community & Family Center
About the Brockton Community and Family Center (BCFC)
In partnership with Brockton Public Schools, the Brockton Community and Family Center (BCFC) was created as a centralized hub of support for Brockton families. The Center’s mission was to provide a safe, welcoming, and accessible space where families could connect with essential resources, build community, and access services designed to enhance their quality of life.
Families were encouraged to visit the Center to engage in culturally responsive programming that addressed key areas such as education, empowerment, the arts, health, and safety. Through this collaborative effort, the BCFC became a trusted space for learning, healing, and connection across the Brockton community.
Programs and services offered at the BCFC included:
-
English language classes for adults
-
Citizenship preparation courses
-
Parent workshops on supporting children’s education
-
Domestic violence support groups
-
Food drives and ongoing assistance for food, housing, and financial insecurity
-
Youth summer programming
-
Backpack giveaways and school supply drives
-
Holiday toy distribution events
-
...and much more
These offerings reflected the Center’s holistic approach to strengthening families and removing barriers to opportunity.
Unfortunately, in 2023, during a period of financial crisis, the acting superintendent made the decision to discontinue the Center’s operations, effectively ending its mission and closing its doors. This closure left a significant gap in community-based supports that many Brockton families had come to rely on.
