How can your school partner with CPLAN?

CPLAN works with schools to identify their family engagement goals and develop an approach that fits their community, capacity, and priorities.

Strengthening Family-School Partnership

The Powerful Partners Program is a research-informed, dual-capacity leadership development program that equips families and educators with the knowledge, relationships, confidence, and shared leadership skills needed to work together in improving educational outcomes for every child.

Grounded in the principles of the Dual Capacity-Building Framework for Family-School Partnerships, the program goes beyond traditional family engagement by intentionally strengthening three interconnected capacities:

  • Family Capacity: Guiding the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills families have to actively nurture their children's educational success while contributing to school improvement.

  • School Capacity: Strengthening educators' ability to build authentic and meaningful partnerships with families, facilitate shared leadership, communicate effectively, and create welcoming, inclusive school communities.

  • Relational Capacity: Cultivating the trust, shared understanding, collaborative problem-solving, and collective leadership that enable families and educators to become true partners in educational success.

Through interactive workshops, storytelling, leadership development, collaborative action planning, and ongoing coaching, participants move beyond learning about schools to becoming leaders who strengthen schools and inspire lasting community change.

What begins as a parent's desire to better support their own child often grows into leadership that benefits hundreds of children, strengthens school communities, and builds more equitable educational systems for future generations.

Workshop Design & Facilitation

Customized workshops or other communications for families and staff addressing topics such as family engagement, education systems, school culture, student success, and more.

Culturally & Linguistically Responsive Family Engagement

Support to strengthen communication and engagement practices that recognize the cultures, languages, experiences, competency levels, and strengths families bring to the school community.

Family Leadership Development

Support for developing and strengthening parent leadership opportunities, including School Site Councils, parent advisory groups, and other family leadership structures.

Mental Wellness & School Community

In partnership with Dr. Gayl Crump Swaby, the Reshaping Community Wellness program integrates critical mental health practices into the capacity building framework. Parents, youth, and school communities are equipped with practical tools to support mental and emotional well-being, transform conflicts into healthy conversations, and build trauma-informed, culturally responsive environments at home and in schools. The program helps participants recognize and break negative generational patterns, foster resilience, and ensure mental wellness becomes a foundation for academic and community success.
